Ralph Myerz ‘Supersonic Pulse’ ALBUM REVIEW

Norwegian maestro of electronica Ralph Myerz is back with his third album. If you’re not aware of him but the music sounds familiar it could be that you heard it stealing cars & running people over. Myerz’s track “The Teacher” was  included on the Grand Theft Auto IV in-game radio soundtrack; it is a remix of the hit song “Forelska i Lærer’n” by the Norwegian rock band The Kids (I’ve never heard of them either). However, fans of his take of electronica will be in for a treat as this album brings together many artists Myerz has worked with previously. ‘Supersonic Pulse’ features fellow Norwegian artists Røyksopp,  Scandipop singer-songwriter/DJ Annie, Snoop Dogg, George Clinton, Roxanne Shanté,  Kurupt, and Diana Ross.

The radio-friendly “Take A Look At The World” produced by Røyksopp and features Annie on vocals is the first single from the album. As you would expect with all things Røyksopp this track is soft, laid back and exactly what we’ve heard before.  The video can be seen below

Now your interest may have piqued at the mention of Diana Ross on the album’s line up but unlike the diva herself “Something New” is best suited to the background. “Do The Damn Thang” (feat. Snoop Dogg, George Clinton) has a retro feel that is almost danceable (more head nodd-able) but the edgier “So Romantic” (feat. David Banner et al) is not at all romantic but with its mesh of trance and hip hop has the makings of an anthem. ‘Dont You Love Me Baby’ is almost a Daft Punk tribute track and the sitar-sounds of ‘Shooterz’ provides an atmospheric moody close to the album.

‘Supersonic Pulse’ epitomises minimalistic electronica – repetitive rhythmic beats with delicate melodies…But with Snoop Dogg. Its spaced-out feel-good vibes make the album accessible. Definitely more late night Fashionista bar soundtrack than crazed dance floor filler.
