20 Classic Albums Turning 20 in 2015

2015 promises to be a great year for album releases. But it’ll take some doing to top the number of great albums released 20 years ago…

1995 saw Britpop reach hit its plateau. The Verve, Elastica and Pulp delivered seminal records, whilst Paul Weller achieved his finest solo moment with Stanley Road and Oasis went supernova with (What’s The Story) Morning Glory.

However, it wasn’t all about Camden boozers and kangol hats. Hip hop was nearing the end of a golden era, with three members of The Wu Tang Clan dropping brilliant albums (represented here by Raekwon’s classic Only Built 4 Cuban Linx and head honcho GZA’s Liquid Swords).

There were also some stonking dance albums, with the likes of The Prodigy and Leftfield crossing over to a mainstream audience, whilst maverick artists such as PJ Harvey and Tindersticks released definitive works. Throw in Tricky’s mesmerising Maxinquaye and sing alongs from The Charlatans and Black Grape and you have one of the greatest years ever for albums.
