5 Top Rock Albums of 2021

Music is a unique channel of art that speaks for millions of people regardless of gender, race or age. Rock music is one of the musical genres that used to be commonly known as ‘rock and roll’.  Although, rock and roll is not as popular as it was 30 years ago, it still has a huge fan base. Rock continues to inspire not only music enthusiasts but also game developers that created many games inspired by this genre. For instance, at platin live casino one can enjoy playing slots featuring the king of rock and roll- Elvis Presley. There is no doubt that there will be new forms of rock music in the future. But for now, let’s see what top rock albums were released last year!

Radiohead – Kid A Mnesia

The album is a reissue of Radiohead’s two very popular studio albums, Kid A, and Amnesiac. Kid A Mnesia was released on 5th November 2021, and is the band’s fourth studio effort, which also serves as a soundtrack to their film of the same name. The 12-track LP follows their 2016 release, The Getaway. It includes the singles “Dark Necessities,” “Go Robot”, and “Sick Love.”

The record debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 charts, selling 118,000 units in its first week. It also reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Rock Albums chart. Furthermore, the consistency solidifies Radiohead as one of the biggest bands in the world.

Nick Cave and Warren Ellis – CARNAGE

Since February 25, 2020, Cave and Ellis’s ambient project has been a steady source of catharsis during the pandemic. Carnage, the duo’s fifth album in five years, features another nine tracks unfold like hazy daydreams. As ever, the music is gorgeously cinematic and imbued with an ache that feels both personal and universal.

The album is more like a movie soundtrack than a conventional record. However, it still feels distinctly like Nick Cave music: gloomy, menacing, and (in the case of the title track) downright apocalyptic.

Squid – Bright Green Field

Bright Green Field is the debut album by English post-punk band Squid. It released on 7 May 2021 under Warp Records. The album was recorded between 2018 and 2021 in London and produced by Dan Carey.

Upon release, the album received critical acclaim. Critics calling it “a phenomenal debut”. The review aggregation website Metacritic reports a normalised rating of 94 out of 100, based on 15 reviews. Thus, it indicates “universal acclaim”.

Wolf Alice – Blue Weekend

The fourth album released 4th June 2021 from the London four-piece, Blue Weekend, is a force of nature. In the hands of producer Markus Dravs, who’s also worked with Arcade Fire, Bjork and Florence and The Machine. The band have crafted their strongest album to date: a collection of songs that feel like anthems for the disenchanted.

Songs like opener “The Beach” and “Smile” with its infectious chorus show off frontwoman Ellie Roswell’s ability to put her finger on the pulse of what it means to be alive right now.

Biffy Cyro – The Myth of Happily Ever After

The Myth of Happily Ever After is the eighth studio album by Scottish alternative rock band Biffy Clyro, released on 14 August 2020. The band announced the album on 22 April 2020. Its tracklisting was confirmed in a press release on 9 June.

The album finds the Scottish trio in ruminative rock mode. It’s a moody, introspective, and sometimes quite colourful listen. However, this is also the kind of record that takes time to reveal its full charms.

Conclusion

Ultimately very little remains the same for any given year in the music world. Therefore, predicting what constitutes the best albums is even more difficult. However, as lifelong music fans, we’ll try to peek into the future. Also, predict what will maintain its classic status once 2021 has come and gone. It’s hard to say what that might be, but you can be assured that it will probably be a genre-defying experience. This will push boundaries while maintaining appealing aesthetics. Who knows, maybe it will be one of these five albums mentioned here.
