8 Acts You Cannot Miss at Liverpool Sound City 2018

Liverpool Sound City is one of our favourite jewels in the festival season crown.  Not only does it set the tone and raise the stakes for the rest of the summer, but it always also introduces us to the finest bands and artists we can expect to see a dozen times more on the circuit.

Besides the obvious, gigantic crowd-pleasing acts on the bill, such as Peace, Black Honey and DMA’s, there are a whole host of artists fizzing under the surface of the initial lineup, waiting patiently for you to fall at their feet in adoration.  We have taken some of the hard work out of deciding who should be worth your insanely-short-but-sweet time at the festival, by detailing 8 acts you cannot afford to miss at this years Liverpool Sound City, including Sam Fender, Gaffa Tape Sandy and Calva Louise.

Who you cannot miss on… Saturday

Who? Aadae
Where? On Air
When? Saturday, 15:15 – 15:45
What Song? ‘Flatline (Make Me Lose My Mind)’

The heavenly mouth of the otherworld is screaming for Aadae’s saccharine vocals to return to them this instant.  Unfortunately for them, the Nigerian-born, Peckham-raised singer  – as well as her pop-infused afrobeat sound – has a date with Liverpool Sound City on Saturday, May 5.  With heaps of proud praise and startling support being showered from the likes of Radio 1Xtra and The Fadar, Aadae is definitely the perfect way to ease into the weekend of festivities.

Who? RedFaces
Where? Hangar34
When? Saturday, 16:00 – 16:30
What Song? ‘Wise Up’

The RedFaces boys are back in Liverpool for one afternoon, and one afternoon only.  Armed with stadium-sized anthems, sublime rock n’ roll melodies and a knack for honing in on the hook, the Sheffield band are the pinnacle of the term ‘the real deal’.   Stardom is firmly in sight, wake up World; RedFaces are on a Liverpool rampage, this Saturday!

Who? Calva Louise
Where? District
When? Saturday, 17:00 – 17:30
What Song? ‘I’m Gonna Do Well’

Oh baby, if you were searching for a rip-roaring rollercoaster of dark riffs and scream-if-you-want-to-go-faster-vocals, then look no further than the new kids on the block, Calva Louise.  The London trio spike your soul with pure euphoria, letting you glance into their whirlwind world for just a couple minutes.  And when you are successfully caught up in the middle of it all?  Well, it is impossible to not fall head-over-heels in love with, Calva Louise.

Who? Beija Flo
Where? Hangar34
When? Late Night Saturday/Sunday Morning, 01:20-01:45
What Song? ‘Mary’

Bringing celestial energy to the late night celebrations of Sound City is our local heartbreaker, Beija Flo.  You cannot chicken out early if Beija Flo is on the bill, her jarring vocals and kooky, slap-dash energy will definitely not allow it.  Be prepared to be enticed into a stupor of beauty… Where everything and everyone around might not be how you first perceived it.

Who you cannot miss on… Sunday

Who? Factory
Where? Red Brick Vintage
When? Sunday, 14:15 – 14:45
What Song? ‘Violet Lips’

Ditch the Bloody Mary’s, wipe the cobwebs from your eyes, we have confidently found the Merseyside answer to a hangover cure – in Runcorn’s Factory we trust.  The quartet is notorious for producing a sheer abundance of nostalgia as well as creating a storm of guitars loud enough to wake up the neighbouring town. Banish the fog in your mind, and open up your world to the gruff voice and controlled energy of Factory.

Who? Gaffa Tape Sandy
Where? Constellations
When? Sunday, 16:15 – 16:45
What Song? ‘Beehive’

Succulent garage rock tracks ripe with emotion are what Gaffa Tape Sandy do best.  The trio of songsmiths hail from Bury St Edmonds, currently live in Brighton and can already congratulate themselves on claiming the hearts of fans across the length and breadth of the country.  From the fields of Glastonbury to the Liverpool Sound City; if there is anybody who should be firmly on your radar this weekend, it is these three heavy music makers.  Watch out for ‘Beehive’, the track which will tattoo itself on your heart.

Who? Vistas
Where? Constellations
When? Sunday, 17:00 – 17:30
What Song? ‘Calm’

Sure to bring in the sparkling sunshine to successfully transform Constellations into a real-life spectacle of the phrase ‘life is a beach’, Vistas’ show at Liverpool Sound City 2018 is perhaps our most anticipated.  Scottish indie rock in its paramount form, Vista’s produce visceral tracks with buckets of passion, enthusiasm and killer professionalism.  This band are the real-life equivalent of a mood-busting booster shot.  Lift your spirits with a legal drug and make sure you are front and centre for the Vistas show.

Who? Sam Fender
Where? On Air
When? Sunday, 21:15 – 21:45
What Song? ‘Friday Fighting’

Through phenomenally performing in some of the most fashionable intimate spaces the country can offer, Geordie boy Sam Fender, is a one-man army taking over the UK.  His fans continue to flock to his side upon hearing clean-cut tracks ‘Play God’ and ‘Greasy Spoon’ and, now the feel-good ‘Friday Fighting’ is available for the world to hear, you are unknowingly next to join the clan.  An essential stop for any new music lover at Liverpool Sound City.

Liverpool Sound City 2018 takes place across Liverpool’s Baltic Triangle on Saturday May 5 and Sunday May 6.  Tickets for the inner-coty festival are still available to purchase via DICE and the festivals official site.
