ALBUM REVIEW: Embrace ‘Embrace’

Yorkshire 5 piece Embrace have returned with their first album since 2004. And the self-titled comeback is precisely what we were expecting ever since the release of their EP ‘Refugees’ back in February.

‘Embrace’ kicks off with opening track ‘Protection’, an up beat offering that shares similarities with Coldplay. With it’s soaring chorus and soft rock vocals ‘Protection’ is exactly what an opening track should be. Next up is ‘In The End,’ a lively and energetic number that really sets the album off, just the sort of song that makes you want to keep listening to this band.

The third track ‘Refugees’, was the first single released from the album. It gives a nod to their old material, but also brings in a new edge. It’s clear that ‘Refugees’ is a good pick, instantly catchy, backed by electro beats and epic guitars whilst fronted by the familiar vocals of both McNamara bothers giving the listener the old ‘it’s all coming back to me now’ feeling.

‘I Run’ and ‘At Once’ make up the ballad tracks of the album. Both are nicely arranged but there’s something about the hypnotic melody of ‘At Once’ that puts it a step above ‘I Run.’ ‘Follow You Home’ and ‘Self Attack Mechanism’ complete the album and with their fast beats and vibrant grooves, these two just make you want to dance and would not be out of place in your Friday night indie disco.

Overall ‘Embrace’ is a good, solid comeback and we recommend you catch them on tour .
