ALBUM REVIEW: Minus The Bear ‘Lost Loves’

Gaining a No. 7 in the Top Indie Album chart with previous album (and 5th of their career) ‘Infinity Overhead’, it is fair to say that Minus the Bear have been making steady progress. The band are now back with new album ‘Lost Loves’ which covers rare and unreleased tracks of theirs from the last 7 years.

With an albums artwork that looks similar to a Peace/Swim Deep album, you may expect to think that this album is just full of naff songs that only the best of fans would deem “beary good” (how hilarious). However, with numbers such as ‘Walk on Air’ and ‘Your Private Sky’ even for newcomers you can easily get into the vibe that Minus the Bear has. This vibe includes a perfect mix of soft rock and psychedelic rock combined with some metal and garage rock. Minus The Bear provides us with the perfect balance in each song. You wouldn’t be scared of dying in a mosh pit if this album was played in full at a festival, yet you wouldn’t be floating round like you’ve had too much LSD, either.

The majority of songs in this album have a good riff but listening to ‘Broken China’ you can see the originality, the strength and the musical talent that Minus the Bear have. If you weren’t lucky enough to receive ‘Your Private Sky’ on Record Store Day back in 2012, then you will be happy to know that this song is placed in the rare and exclusive track listing.

Lost Loves – The new album by Minus the Bear is due to be released on October 6th on Digital Download, CD and Vinyl
