Sheffield’s Arctic Monkeys have rightly attained their first number one spot on the Alternative Songs Billboard chart in America.
Eight years after their first appearance on the American Billboard charts with ‘I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor’, the Sheffield quartet have finally bagged the ultimate first position with ‘Do I Wanna Know?’
The song itself has been taken from Turner and co’s fifth studio album, ‘AM’, which got to number six in the Billboard 200 upon its release in September 2013. Snagging the number one spot in the UK and being one of the most sought after albums of 2013, ‘AM’ has become the most successful album of the band’s career.
Thanks to a heavy touring schedule across the US and considerable radio support, Arctic Monkeys are taking America by storm. Speaking to Gigwise, the director of marketing for Domino (Arctic Monkey’s record label) described his appreciation towards the “devoted fan base” in America.
“It’s rewarding to see the band’s dedication produce such great success” he states, following the announcement of the number one spot. He also champions the Monkeys rise in popularity due to the “devoted fan base, persistent touring and the support of radio”.
Arctic Monkeys embark on a sold out twelve date tour around America starting in Miami on January 30th and ending in Minneapolis on Valentine’s Day. Support comes from Deerhunter in New York and Boston.
