According to reports The Libertines are to reunite this July for a gig at Hyde Park.
As Gigslutz reported earlier today (21 April), Pete Doherty has confirmed that he has said ‘yes’ to reforming The Libertines, but had not at that point had the say so from any of the rest of the band.
We caught up with Carl Barât at his DJ set at KPH, Ladbroke Grove last night. When quizzed about the rumours Barât said that the news regarding the reunion is “true” and that there is “very much a possibility” that The Libertines will once again reunite. When asked about a date, Barât and his manager both told us to “keep the 5th July free”.
The Libertines had a one-off reunion for Reading and Leeds in 2010, after which rumours of UK tour never materialised.
To further add to the story, the official Libertines Facebook page has posted an old-fashioned map of Hyde Park, potentially as a clue to the location. Hyde Park currently has Black Sabbath playing on the 4th July and McBusted playing on the 6th, so the 5th July certainly looks a possibility.
If you’re a fan I’d watch this space, and maybe take Carl’s advice about the 5th July!
