Deer Tick return with their new single ‘The Rock’ released 12th August – LISTEN NOW

Rhode Island’s notorious beer-swilling gang Deer Tick, who return this week with new single ‘The Rock’ (out Aug 12); the first material to emerge from forthcoming fifth album Negativity.

‘The Rock’ flaunts Deer Tick’s well-known tendency to harvest a guitar-heavy, heart-on-sleeve Americana gem. But with blasts of brass and piercing strings that spit dirt all over the song’s underbelly, ‘The Rock’ enters new, darker territory for the Providence quintet.

Frontman John McCauley brands ‘The Rock’ a twisted breakup ode: “The silly little metaphors in the song are ‘the rock’ which is the power to destroy your relationship, and ‘the window’ which is the relationship.” The already razor-throated singer further confesses that“It shreds my voice pretty good” and that he considers the new LP to be their hotly received debut War Elephant’s “evil twin”.

Negativity was produced by Steve Berlin (Los Lobos) – who also featured on the super-group Diamond Rugs LP with McCauley – and will be released in the UK on September 30th.
