Discovery of the Week: Trowler

She wants to get so, she wants to get so far” is the repetitive but smooth and sultry chorus that will be stuck in your head after hearing Trowler’s brand new single ‘Get So Far’. Originally from Essex, Alfie Firmin, otherwise known as Trowler is about to release his debut EP, All The Truman Girls. Released via new independent Manchester label Echolalia Records, All The Truman Girls is being pressed as a set of 75 cassettes exclusively for this year’s Cassette Store Day – also making it Trowler’s debut physical release.

With its heavenly synths and simple riff in unison with Firmin’s vocals, ‘Get So Far’ is a brilliant example of the well-known phrase “less is more”. The effectiveness of a repetitive melody and stripped-down instrumentation is impressive, and honestly shows Trowler’s skill as a songwriter and musician. Fans of Mac Demarco’s recent album will undoubtedly fall head over heels for ‘Get So Far’ and the other tracks on Trowler’s EP.

All The Truman Girls is out 17 October via Echolalia Records as part of Cassette Store Day 2015.
