EP: My Cruel Goro ‘My Cruel Goro’

Rating:

My Cruel Goro‘s eponymous debut EP is bursting with noisy, riff-laden, alternative-rock tracks that will make even the most reluctant fan start throwing themselves around like an angst-ridden teenager.

The band hail from both Iceland and Italy, and formed in summer 2014. Andrea Maraschi (vocals, guitar, programming), Andrea Marcellini (bass), and Tommaso Adanti (drums) began playing music with an ethic similar to their favourite bands; Nirvana and Sonic Youth. They rehearsed with no idea what they were doing, before eventually realising “Yeah, that sounds good!”

Opening track ‘Clash’ lives up to its name, smashing its way in to your ear holes with its catchy guitar riffs and quickly learnable lyrics. ‘Crapford’ is similar in style and volume – Maraschi’s guitar ringing out like manic bells over bold bass lines and dominant drum beats. The tracks bleed in to each other, and leave no time for listener’s to catch their breath.

Closing track ‘Glue Buzz’ – which is accompanied by a new music video – bursts and buzzes with energy, bouncing back and forth for a hefty five minutes. The grungy, riff-ridden outro is easily the highlight, filled with thrashing guitars that will have you tearing the paper off your walls and replacing the blank spaces with I <3 MY CRUEL GORO graffiti.

My Cruel Goro is a fast-paced, knock-out EP. Cathartic and energetic, it will appeal to fans of alternative-rock, grunge; and anyone who just needs to cut loose for a couple of minutes at the end of the day.

My Cruel Goro is out now via Rebel Waltz Records.
