EP: The Repeat Offenders – ‘Just Be Yourself’

With a handful of catchy tunes and a bucket load of cocksure swagger, The Repeat Offenders are fighting the fight for a dying breed of indie rock bands on new EP, Just Be Yourself.

As self-confessed admirers of the mod scene, there is always the danger of a four-piece band of males being disparagingly labelled as lad rock; but Just Be Yourself displays a keen ear for melody, and moments of impressive musicianship, especially from lead guitarist Josh Saw.

There are plenty of similarities to stalwarts of this particular scene, The Rifles, but these three tunes are certainly not pale imitations, and show plenty of craft. ‘Days To Live’ and ‘900 Times’ have an anthemic vibe, driven by the tight rhythm section of bassist Graham Holmes and drummer Richard Wainwright, while Andrew Ruddick’s vocals match the strutting music.

New single ‘Take It Down’ shines brightest, a three-minute burst of attitude and confidence, punctuated by Saw’s incisive riff, and concluding with a ‘fist-in-the-air’ defiance.

Most interestingly, the whole of Just Be Yourself is encouragingly a stark improvement on previous efforts, with The Repeat Offenders obviously continuing to progress as a band. They will only continue to get better and better.

Just Be Yourself is released on June 6th, and can be pre-ordered on iTunes, here, and you can find out about live performances by visiting the band’s website, here.
