EP: Shelter Point ‘Weird Dreamers’

Hazy electronica at its must subtle best is at the core of this Nottingham based duo’s new EP, fittingly named, Weird Dreamers. The four tracked EP follows up Shelter Point‘s 2012 debut, Forever For Now, and after being dubbed recently as Zane Lowe’s “Next hype”, the much anticipated release is set to be just the beginning to a very promising year for the duo.

A heady mix of inescapable atmospheric sounds married with floating guitars and dreamy vocals, opener ‘Fossil’ underlines the boys’ ability to create true chilled out vibes. String arrangements make for an even dreamier atmosphere as Shelter Point demonstrate why the EP deserves the name Weird Dreamers, leaving little in the way for reality, with its calm detachment from the real world.

Second track in, ‘Hansel’, entices the listener further to the compelling other worldy musical landscape the duo create. Infectious melodic stripped back chords are combined with an understated pulsating rhythm that is set to haunting vocals. Glitching samples only add to the instrumental spaced out electronic sounds.

Title Track ‘Weird Dreamers’ is said to be inspired by the lucid synchronisation of two sleeping people, and its easily captured. Minimalistic soft instrumentation is met with singer Liam’s dream worthy falsetto vocals. The whole track is numbingly easy listening, in the most contemporary way possible. The EP rounds off with the eerie ‘Dog Howl’; almost a continuum from the previous tracks, with a woozy undertone that lulls to a close.

The duo seem to be perfecting their own unique take on an ethereal electronic sound with this related release. Already having accomplished a tour with Indiana, remixes of Laura Doggett, Fink and MØ all under their belt, Shelter Point look like they’re set to make 2015 their own.

Weird Dreamers is released on 22nd February via Space + Time.
