FESTIVAL GUIDE: Bestival

Name: Bestival

Where: Robin Hill, Isle Of Wight

When: 10th – 13th September

Headliners: Missy Elliott, Duran Duran, The Chemical Brothers

Also Featuring: Underworld, Tame Impala, Annie Mac, Mark Ronson, Jungle, FKA Twigs… The lineup also features ‘very special guests’.

A Brief History: Born out of ten years of events and record releases from Rob da Bank’s Sunday Best empire, Bestival is his idea of how a modern day festival should be. Rob – along with his wife Josie and co founders John and Ziggy from Get Involved – managed to make his ideas a reality and (as the many awards suggest) it clearly paid off. Whilst Rob ensures the lineup is the most eclectic you’ll experience, Josie creates magic in the cocktail bars, innovative stages and highly encouraged fancy dress, making Bestival one of the most eclectic and wondrous festivals there is.

How To Get There: Isle of Wight is just a short ferry ride from Southampton, Portsmouth or Lymington, but due to the popularity of the festival it’s advised that ferries are booked as soon as possible. From there, various coaches and shuttle buses are available for getting to the actual site.
If the easy option isn’t your thing, and you’re feeling a bit charitable, there’s both Swim2Bestival and Row to Bestival options; check ‘em out!

Gigslutz Top Tip: Don’t be afraid to get well and truly stuck into the festival. This year’s theme is Summer of Love so go all out with fancy dress and be sure to check out any non-music events you think sound interesting. Make the most of the weekend.

Memorable Moments: Last year saw the festival – at the request of Nile Rodgers – beat the world record for the largest disco ball. With 10 years under the belt, there’s also been no shortage of memorable sets and headliners. But it can only get better…

What We Said Last Year: Dan went along last year and was shown why Bestival is the best festival out there…

Did You Know? Among the madness of Bestival you’ll find ‘Slow Motion’: described as a festival within the festival, Slow Motion is home to all things relaxing – from meditation to massages it can really help you get through the heaviness of a festival.

How To Get Tickets: Tickets are available online.
