A first date with: Dirty Heads

As part of our First Date series, we took a (completely imaginary) trip to California to get taken out by Dirty Heads…

So, first date! Where are we going?
A museum or art exhibit.  You can learn a lot from someone in silence.  Afterwards you can discuss the pieces and learn what shade of rose their spectacles are.

I’m from London, so where in California would you take me for a memorable first date?
If you’ve never been to California you’d probably want to do something quintessential beach. There are a lot of great restaurants that overlook the ocean. Malibu comes to mind.

Say we’ve ended up opting for a classic cinema date, what kind of film are you going to woo me with?
I’m not typically into horror movies, but for the sake of breaking through physical barrier I would watch one.

And dutch courage – what are we drinking?
I would probably refrain from having a drink on the first date.  You only have once to make a first impression and I wouldn’t want to come off as a tool.

Our first date’s going well, but what’s your chat? Are you straight in with music talk or does the band take a back seat?
Hopefully the girl doesn’t know what I do before we have a first date.  I’m around music enough so it would be nice to talk about something else for a change.

How long before I’m invited to a gig? And when do I start becoming a muse for songs?
We play at home about once a year so she would have to wait awhile for a show.  The best music always comes from struggle and heartache so it would definitely be after the break up.

What’s going to impress you? How do I get a second date?
Correct grammar and the affinity for sarcasm is a plus.

And just briefly on to the music, you’ve cracked America and you’re slowly taking over the rest of the world, what’s next for Dirty Heads?
We’ve been grinding here in North America for many years.  Our music is slowly getting out to the rest of the world.  This next year we’re trying to get over to Japan and a few new territories.  A long term goal for us would to be able to do what we can in the US, overseas.

Dirty Heads’ new album is out now.
