Gigslutz Argentina: Pez & Poseidótica @ Niceto Club

If you were to come to Buenos Aires and you like good rock music, what is the possibility to enjoy some? If you like small places –pubs, discos, clubs- because you prefer to be near the band and the stadiums and the theatre are not suitable for you, can you find a place like that? And if you found it, could you listen to good bands with an appropriate sound?

Gigslutz in Argentina did this work for you and says: “Yes, of course”.

In Buenos Aires there are many clubs or pubs where you can listen to good music and get on the beers and whisky. The pick of these places are “La Trastienda”, “Niceto Club”, “The Roxy”, “El Teatro de Flores” or “Vorterix”. You have shows there from Wednesday to Sunday and these are near the train or underground’s stations or the bus stops.

This month Gigslutz went to “Niceto Club” to watch a classic ‘under rock’ band, Pez, who played with the rising band Poseidótica. Why are they part of the ‘under rock’ scene? Because they have played for a long time and until the present they have sold out their albums without big record companies. Pez was born in 1993 and it has 13 albums; Poseidótica was founded in 2000 and it has 3 discs.

However, the night of the show had to finish before midnight because on Sunday Argentinian people had to vote for the primary election. So the audience arrived around 20.30 (3 hours earlier than normal) to Niceto Club in Palermo neighbourhood. The place has three bars and the people, before Poseidótica appeared on stage, rushed towards them. Alcohol ran early that night and the first band started its set punctually at 21.30.

Poseidótica is an instrumental group with two guitars, one bass and a drummer. They played for about one hour its stoner rock with some pieces of virtuosity as Dream Theather. The audience already knew it and they celebrated each one of the songs. The screen behind the band projected psychedelic reflections, which worked in an appropriate way with the music.

When Poseidótica finished its set, Niceto Club was crammed and it was really impossible to go to the bathroom or to buy some drinks. Cigarettes and marihuana smoke was everywhere and the people were in a very good mood. At 22.35 Pez –a power trio- showed up and it played 45 minutes without any pause. Pez was presenting its last disc “Nueva era, viejas mañas” (in English “New age, old habits”), which is an album that shows a bit heavy metal sound. The next 45 minutes Pez played some songs of the rest from its works.

The gig was recorded with cameras and it was broadcasted on the website vivoconectado.com. It finished at 00:10 – some minutes after the time in which it had to end.

In spite of the prohibition to sell alcohol during the election day, the bars, pubs and discos were opened and they worked normally. But people who usually go to concerts in Buenos Aires don´t like going dancing or listening to noisy music after a show. They prefer having a pizza with beer (a classic Argentinian combination). So Gigslutz took this way and went to “Corrientes Street”, a typical centric avenue with theaters and cinemas, where you can find the best pizza of the city and the coldest beer of Buenos Aires.

The night was perfect but we were tired and called it a day. If it had not been tired, it would have gone to a nearby Jazz bar because Jam Sessions in this part of the world starts at 3:00. For some people the night was beginning.
