Gigslutz Interview: Dimond Saints

By Drums Eat Everything for Hijacker Records.

Deep from the heart of the Dimond District in Oakland, California, West Coast electronic music pioneer An-Ten-Nae and beat master Releece joined forces to form Dimond Saints and make deep, bassy grooves fatter than your best ‘yo mamma’ joke. The Rising is the first instalment of their three chapter debut album, Shingetsu and the albums first single, the shimmer-step We Diamonds hit #4 on the hype machine with their more recent Lorde remix hitting #3 on the same chart.

We threw some questions at them during a brief break from making thunderous beats:

)
Guys, congratulations first of all on your (well deserved) recent hype machine success. Has that opened any doors for you so far?

Thanks, Def getting hit up for some remixes.

Your Lorde remix was massively well received and remixes seem to be a great way for producers to make a name for themselves and build a genuine fan base. You also did well with your Florence and Jaymes Young remixes; do you have plans to do more of these or would you prefer to push your original tracks?

We just love making music, and keep a healthy balance between doing remixes and original music. With remixes we take a step back and look to see where the song wants to take us. With our original we just take it. We do have quite a few remixes coming out over the next month, a few official ones included.

Where do you guys see bass music going next?

Hopefully more musical, and deeper.

Who are you listening to right now?

Banks, What So Not , Ta-Ku, Mø, Kygo. All over the board really.

We are playing at Coachella, LIB, and a few others we can’t mention yet.

What’s the worst thing about California? Is it the horrible weather? Too much sun, yeah?

Hey sun, go away bring me the moon.

What does your live set up look like?

We are running two laptops. Triggering Machine live, as well as some synths live and some other controllers.

Give me a collective mark out of 10 for Yeezus:

Anyone you would particularly like to work with?

Banks, Santigold, James Blake .

What’s next for Dimond Saints?

We have quite a few remixes coming out over the next few weeks, whilst were finishing the Second chapter of Shingetsu.”
