Gigslutz Urban: Fresh This Week (24.4.15)

Fresh This Week, our weekly dose of top urban tunes is here once again to keep you on your toes and in the know. As always, our Urban Music Editor Matt Tarr has compiled a list of the tracks that have been on rotation at Gigslutz this week, so take a breath and turn your speakers up because these tracks are pure fire…

Shakka ‘You Don’t Know What You Do To Me’

Taken from his upcoming EP, Shakka has shared the brilliant ‘You Don’t Know What You Do To Me’ and made us even more excited about the project than we already were, if that was possible. Having written, performed, produced, mixed and mastered the track entirely by himself, credit must go to the West London-based artist for creating such a monster track with zero help. Plus, “cupid’s got a javelin” is defo one of our favourite lines in like forever. Follow on Twitter and Facebook.

Apache Indian ‘Election Crisis’

Birmingham reggae artist Apache Indian, best known for his huge hit ‘Boom Shak-A-Lak’, has returned with the massively catchy ‘Election Crisis’. Speaking about the track he said, “The song wasn’t easy to write but I felt it was important to write a song about the elections to raise the issues that need to be raised! People either are confused about who to vote for or just not bothered about politics in general”. Follow on Twitter and Facebook.

Bonkaz ‘Run The Block’

After featuring Bonkaz track ‘L.A Interlude’ a few weeks back, he returns once again with another deadly offering. This time teaming up with one of the most exciting production teams in the UK scene, The Heavytrackerz, ‘Run The Block’ is a straight grime anthem and with support for Bonkaz increasing immensely every day, there’s no doubt that this one is gonna be huge. Young Spray ft Wretch 32 and Chip ‘Proud’

“I ain’t proud to say I was raised around killers…” is the opening line of Chip’s vocal hook on the latest effort from Young Spray, ‘Proud’. Discussing his ‘innocent years’ and times gone by, ‘Proud’ sees Young Spray talk about how his ‘mummy raised a good boy, the streets raised a bad one’ and with a guest verse from Wretch 32 reminiscing about his youth, the nostalgia is in full effect. Raz Fresco ft. Bishop Nehru ‘Equinox’

With Raz Fresco releasing his album Pablo Frescobar shortly, the 20-year old MC/Producer from Toronto, Canada has shared the second track from that very release, ‘Equinox’. Having previously shared the track ‘Influenza’ featuring Wu-Tang Clan legend Raekwon, Fresco this time called upon the services of Bishop Nehru for a feature. Having produced tracks for artists such as, Tyga, Big Sean, B.o.B., Wale and French Montana, Fresco clearly knows his way around a beat and we are certainly loving this new one. Follow on Twitter.

Context ‘In The Bag’

Norwich-born lyricist Context has come a long way since his self-made video for ‘Off With Their Heads’, starring Ed Sheeran, made MTV’s playlist. Back with a brand new single ‘In The Bag’, having just announced a performance at BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend in May, the rest of 2015 is looking very bright for the UK rapper. Tempa T ‘Police & Teef’

East London MC Tempa T is back with the explosive track ‘Police & Teef’ and continued to do exactly what he does best; spit bar after bar of pure fire. We’re even lucky enough at the end of the track to get some Tempz autotuned singing and that doesn’t happen everyday. You don’t wanna get “panned down to the side of the head”, so get this tune in your ears and just go mental…it’s the only way. Follow on Twitter and Facebook.

Nick Black x Stinkin Slumrok ‘Luxor’

Nick Black’s new mixtape SMBS (Select Misic By Steering) is on the way shortly and the East London-based rapper/producer has shared a brand new collaboration taken from it, with London-based rapper Stinkin Slumrok. With a dark video matching the murky beat, ‘Luxor’ is an exciting insight into Black’s upcoming project and we’re looking forward to hearing more very soon. Follow on Twitter.

808INK ‘Roulette’

UK Hip Hop collective 808INK returned this week with the third of a three part video series ‘Roulette’. Taken from their forthcoming debut album an Artistic Piece, which the group describe as an alternative hip-hop collage album, ‘Roulette’ features a memorable vocal hook as well as some solid bars from rapper Mumblez Black Ink. With the group also keen film-makers, keep your eyes peeled for a lot more exciting things to come from them shortly. Follow on Twitter.

Shay La Rose ‘Running’

Ahead of the release of her debut mixtape Coming of A Rose, South London singer-songwriter Shay La Rose has shared her brand new single ‘Running’, produced by Benjiflow. The track sees Shay open up about her hunger to pursue a career in music and the obstacles that she has faced, but after this awesome track, she should have no problems achieving her goals whatsoever.
