Gigslutz Weekly Gig Picks 06/01/2014

Hello my pretties! Happy New Year, one hopes you’re satisfied, joyous and not trying to quit smoking/drinking or start ‘clean eating’ – I love you just as you are!  So this week’s gig guide has found us a little thin on the ground, it seems the big arenas are hibernating.  But who needs them when the smaller venues are armed and ready!  Those who are out to play are new and brave, so let’s go show them some love before they get to Beyonce-level-kidney-selling-for-tickets-style shows…

King Tuts New Years Revolution

‘Quite possibly the finest small venue in the world’ according to the NME.  And while January can be seen as a ‘dead’ time for live music these guys are embracing the space by putting on 40 Scottish+ acts of 16 nights – amazing!  Dancetastic Harry and the Hendersons kick things off tonight (Monday), the electro indie in full Scottish accents of Campfires in Winter and Cherri Fosphate later in the week will be sure to excite, and my faves the country blues outfit The Holy Ghosts will getting you shaking your shimmy on Saturday.  Want it more chilled? No probs, the haunting Chloe Latimer can help you with that.  This event is an absolute belter so Scotland, embrace!!!

Tripwires

Like some kind of trippier Radiohead (no pun intended, maybe…), Tripwires have entered my life to make me feel like I’m floating if I listen to them when squinting at my fairy lights while turning my head slightly to the left, love that.  So how will the delicious Catherine, I Feel Sick sound live?  Well you can find out online, but I’d rather go to Hackney’s Shacklewell Arms on Friday and see for myself.  The songs resonate long after you’ve heard them, burrowing into the psyche and perfect for some headphones moments.  Check them before they’ve shredded and synthed their way to the Pyramid Stage.

Wild Cub

Want to live your life like you live in the best Instagram picture ever?  The twangy joy that is Wild Cub is totally for you then!  The Nashville-based five piece are bringing some sunshine to the North West mid-week before they brighten Brixton at the weekend.  I love going to see bands that have travelled across the pond in smaller venues, you can always see the extra passion and balls that goes with international touring making it quite special.  Their single ‘Thunder Clatter’ sound just brilliant on record, super tight harmonies to boot!  If it translates to the stage you’ll be guaranteed to leave feeling like a sunset-soaked selfie with a filter (I have no idea what i just said, I think it’s to do with nice photos though…)

Conveniently placed video and tour days on their homepage, thanks Wild Cub

When not making cocktails for Manchester's finest, Le Titts is most likely to be found the other side of the bar in a cloud of smoke and wine musing loudly over her fantasy band line up, love of the album format and why nothing is better than The Stone Roses. And then spilling the wine...Loving the ride with GigSlutz.
