The alternative rock band have been announced alongside Gruff Rhys (Super Furry Animals), Smoove and Turrell, Frankie & The Heartstrings, Bleech, Hyde & Beast, The Lake Poets, The Twilight Sad, School of Language and Lisbon and Boy Jumps Ship.
This is fast shaping up to the be biggest festival line-up of contemporary music the City of Sunderland has hosted as yet more acts are still to be announced as well as the headliner for the second stage on Saturday.
Ross Millard, who curates the event, said: “We’re delighted to unveil the additions of The Happy Mondays, Gruff Rhys(Super Furry Animals), Frankie & The Heartstrings, Smoove and Turrell and all the other bands too and we really feel like the atmosphere in Mowbray Park will be positive and fit for a top-notch inner-city boutique music festival. Throw in all the exciting up and coming names on Stages 2 and 3 and it starts to look like the emerging British music scene is descending on Sunderland for two days of exciting wall to wall rock n roll action. I can’t wait!”
Despite taking a year out last year, it’s all chance for Split which is usually hosted in September and at Ashbrooke Sports Club, however, this year it’ll be slap bang in the middle of the summer on the 9-10 of August and in the heart of Sunderland’s City centre at Mowbray Park.
