I Would Go Out Tonight… Gigslutz Gig Guide 14 – 20th Jan 2014

Hello Oh You Fine Looking Executive Slutz Readers You!  How the devil are you?  This week has seen me wandering around Manchester irreparably damaging my cowboy boots with wetness – to quote Shameless, ‘and they charge us for water’!  Anywho…January’s a fricken long month, so it’s important we keep our musical energy up, but also indulging our melancholy contemplative side!  This week after a ‘thinky’ start, I want to jump my face off and forget about the fact that it’s still 2 WHOLE WEEKS till payday!  Feel the same?  Then see below my musical address on the emotional state of the nation…

Sarah de Warren

Stumbled across this beautiful voice by accident.  Citing Jeff Buckley and The XX as her influences, prepare some ponderous atmospheric indie.  Only 19 but sounding like she’s had enough drama for a lifetime, expressed through gorgeous poetic lyrics.  If you’re feeling like engaging your inner January emotional self, this one’s for you.

You can catch her beautiful sounds at Night and Day Cafe, Manchester, on 16th January

The Scribers

The Scribers sound like the kind of boys your Mom told you not to hang around with, the ones that don’t clean behind their fingernails, that didn’t hand their homework in on time, that you find yourself having a naughty smooch with down a back ally on the way back from school…the best kind of boys.  Their music is raw and bass heavy, like a more disillusioned early Arctic Monkeys, perfect for any January job haters out there.  And they get special affection as they’re from my home town, and it’s been awhile since I truly loved a band from Birmingham.  Get us back on the map boys!

Get down and dirty with these boys at The Bulls Head, Birmingham, on 17th January

Blitz Kids

Keeping with the naughty boys theme, these guys sound more like they’ve had a shower and sped up the angst.  Punk with a more a pop leaning, shouty chorus’s, and loads of dance potential.  They launch their album at Kingston’s Fighting Cocks on Saturday, which is the perfect opportunity to purge yourself of any stressy-week demons by moshing your face off in support.

Go ogle and get sweaty at the Fighting Cocks, Kingston, on 19th January for their album launch party

DJ Shiftee

I’m big on supporting international tour acts at smaller venues, and taking the opportunity to see something different.  Dj Shiftee plays Edinburgh’s Sneaky Pete’s, one of those below stairs venues where you feel like you’ve stumbled upon a different world.  As a World Supremacy DJ Champion, he brings depth and excitement to watching live DJ’s sets through some obscenely amazing scratching and mixing.  Even his YouTube video is exciting FFS!  The opportunity to see a world class DJ talent in such an intimate venue is too good not to run to, get involved

Work your body pop at Sneaky Pete’s, Edinburgh, on 20th January

Kate Tittley

When not making cocktails for Manchester's finest, Le Titts is most likely to be found the other side of the bar in a cloud of smoke and wine musing loudly over her fantasy band line up, love of the album format and why nothing is better than The Stone Roses. And then spilling the wine...Loving the ride with GigSlutz.
