I Would Go Out Tonight… Gigslutz Weekly Gig Guide!

Sup friends! I hope you’ve had wonderful week of bee bopping along to you favourite songs, going to gigs and listening to inappropriately loud tunes. Personally, I’ve been unable to get Bruno Mars out of my head all week, catchier than herpes is that lad! Anywho, it appears things are picking up again in live music now, and tours a plenty are happening all over these green and pleasant hills, win! So I’ve had a flick through, and here’s my thoughts on the week. Do enjoy, all feedback welcome 😀

Trojan Sound System, Shlomo, Reeps One, Dizraeli & Downlow, Coda Live @ Brixton Jamm

Ethically-driven underground clothing label THTC have pulled out a quality line up for their latest night at Brixton Jamm. Trojan Sound System will be joined by Gigslutz favourite Shlomo this Saturday for 2 rooms full of hip hop,  DnB, Reggae, Electro Swing & more. Shlomo’s beatboxing skills are the stuff of legend and worth the entrance fee alone, yet for a mere 8 quid you’ll have more quality music that you can shake a stick at. Highly recommended night!

Get yourself down to Brixton Jamm, this Saturday, 1st Feb, from 10pm – 6am.  Tickets and info available here

Black Submarine

Avid Slutz readers will be aware that I reviewed their album last week, and got a little dry humpy over it by third play. On record they’re awesome, a band that sounds completely at home in the studio, lots of feedback, reverb, heavy sounds. Industrially ethereal if you will. How that translates to the stage though…hopefully brilliantly, but you better go see just to check.

Pedals at the ready for Black Submarine in Bristol on Monday

Darlia

Blackpool’s Darlia have a already been hailed as the most exciting guitar band in the UK…big up to the North! The great news is, they might actually be. Snotty ‘couldn’t give a s***’ attitude comes from the band’s platinum haired lead singer, while car crash drums and twangy distorted guitars slice through the air. Very grungey, but not in the Seattle rip off way, this is a sound all their own. Angry, grubby, engaging, but with the potential to be so indifferent, the sound balances on the knife edge of perfectly executed noise. They’ve been on tour for nigh on 2 months now, so prepare for a sweat fest 🙂 get involved before it goes all MTV Unplugged.

Hair nostalgia and hopefully some mosh bruises in London

Modern Faces

Do you like Kasabian? Do you like Mariachi bands and or spaghetti westerns? Well, the song Lufthansa may be for you, as may be the modern faces! Channelling the theatrical retro of Last of the Shadow Puppets with sharp lyrics and big musical hooks, this is a cool band, I can imagine some very serious festival fixtures coming their way soon. Well rehearsed and a bit sexy with an album out this year, seize your chance to get your hands on Fife’s finest

Hustle your way into The Liquid Rooms in Edinburgh on Saturday

Whales in Cubicles

The gig I’m off to review this week at the still standing Night & Day cafe. Wheezer-esque garage like indie rockers, who’ve already done a wonderful ‘close up of my face like Thom Yorke’ video! If you’re at the one in Manchester say hi!
Squeeze yourself into confined spaces in Newcastle, Edinburgh, Leeds and Manchester

Less Than Jake/Reel Big Fish

There’s a ska band, at the end of my street…well there will be this week! I need say no more, pop punk, perky ska whatever you want to call it, these veterans of parent-hating, hot girl fancying, general awkwardness with life but in the happiest way are still on tour. And no, you are not too cool for – go get happy.

This band of merry men play Belfast, Cardiff and Manchester this week

When not making cocktails for Manchester's finest, Le Titts is most likely to be found the other side of the bar in a cloud of smoke and wine musing loudly over her fantasy band line up, love of the album format and why nothing is better than The Stone Roses. And then spilling the wine...Loving the ride with GigSlutz.
