INTERVIEW: Faux

Following the release of their new single ‘Body Heat,’ and ahead of a UK headline tour with support from Polary, we caught up with Faux to find out what they’ve got in store for 2018…

Hi, do you want to start by telling us a bit about Faux? How would you pitch yourselves to someone who’s never heard of the band?

Hello! We’re a group of mates from the South coast, who like to write pop rock that have interesting rhythms and the occasional riff for good measure. The easiest way to describe us is “Dirty Pop”; people seem to get what we mean by that or start talking about N-sync which is obviously great also.

You’ve just released ‘Body Heat’ as your first offering of 2018 – and it’s strong. You prefaced it with a Facebook post which said you were putting 2015-2017 to bed with some absolute bangers. What’s new sound-wise in 2018?

Thank you, I’m glad you like it! I think we have just spent a long time now trying to work out what we want to write and sound like, and it eventually clicked late last year. Songs are flowing out of us like never before and they all just feel really good to play!

And what about ‘Body Heat’ made you chose it as the frontrunner?

Just the tempo really; it’s so much fun to play in the rehearsal room, that it sort of barged it’s way in to out set all on it’s own. Oh and the chorus is really fun to sing!

You supported Counterfeit in April which is an ode to your pretty versatile sound, which you’ve dubbed ‘dirty pop’ – where did that sound come from?

It’s a weird one but when we get asked “what bands so you sound like?”, you can’t reply “None we’re 100% unique”, and listing bands you listen to just feels a bit lazy, so the term ‘dirty pop’ was born.

You’re about to set out on your biggest headline tour – how are you feeling about it?

Nervous Haha! If nobody turns up when you’re headlining it’s literally your fault… Also we have always had a strict time limit and had to focus on who we’re supporting and which songs may go down well with their crowd etc. Nerves aside though, we’re just looking forward to stretching our legs a little and playing some songs we enjoy performing.

And you’ve got a hometown show at The Joiners in Southampton. Do you play at home much or is it a special occasion?

We’re really blessed to have The Joiners; it’s a special venue with a special team behind it. Ricky Bates has given us the opportunity to support the likes of Tigers Jaw, Creeper, Turnover and Foxing to name a few which has really helped us build the foundations of a fan base in our home town, so having the opportunity to headline The Joiners is something really mind blowing to us.

Have you got anything special planned for the tour overall?

New songs, new merch and we also have our friends Polary supporting who are going to blow everyone away!

Finally, what else can we expect from Faux this year?

Lots of new music, I can’t say in what context or when but it’s coming. We’re also going to be touring a lot more this year, so keep your peepers on our socials…
