Interview: Glass City Vice

Glass City Vice are a band which had been getting us quite excited here at Gigslutz Towers. The band were first brought to our attention by Damon Minchella and obviously we needed to check them out having been given the nod by such a legend. The Brighton based band consist of Josh Oliver, Ed Lytton Cobbold, Dudley Powell and Lawrie Miller and formed in 2010. Since then they gratfed their bollocks off touring up and down the country and releasing some cracking numbers along the way. Check out some of their tunes and what the band have to say below…

As an up and coming band, could you describe your sound to those who haven’t had theve pleasure of hearing you yet?

Its always hard to describe your sound when its constantly evolving, but I’d say we’re something like an alt-rock band with a big focus on dynamics and energetic live performance.

Who are your biggest influences?

Our influences are all different as you’d expect, but at the moment we’re all listening to the new Ben Howard and older Death Cab For Cutie a fair amount.

What would your desert island disc be?
Josh = Phoenix “Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix”
Dudley = Steely Dan “Aja”
Ed = Death Cab For Cutie “Plans”
Lawrie = Manchester Orchestra “Mean Everything To Nothing”

What inspires you to make music?

This is gonna sound super cheesey, but…. When we can see people having a good time listening to what we do, thats enough.

What has been the highlight of your career thus far?

We’re all pretty chilled out to be honest with you, not exactly the most rock and roll band going. Im (Dudley) probably the most annoying, I can never sleep in the van so I’m just sat there trying to keep everyone up purely for my own amusement.

Who is the biggest diva out of the four of you, ie the most annoying to tour with?

My personal highlight was being main support for Rival Schools this year. That band soundtracked my teenage years, important stuff right there!

What have you got in the pipeline, and what are your plans for the future?

2015 is gonna be a big, big year for us. Its gonna be the culmination of all we’ve been working on this year in regards to writing and recording. New EP, physical releases, videos, tours, and some really really  exciting shows to announce are gonna be just a few upcoming things to expect from us.
