INTERVIEW: HIDDEN CHARMS

Hidden Charms have been taking the UK by storm this past year and many are quickly, and rightfully so, learning their name. Rapidly gaining a buzz of attention, the four-piece sound like a Beat group straight out of 1965, with Rhythm ‘n’ Blues influences, melodic catches and a soulful psychedelic edge; Hidden Charms are undeniably dance worthy. Showcasing youthful charm in their new track ‘Love You Cause You’re There’, the band are inescapably reminiscent of early sounds from The Coral mixed with a splash of The Who. 2015 has also been a year that has seen more than the music world grasping their name, with the inevitable fashion players learning of the boys unique and vintage inspired style. They’ve landed campaigns with the likes of Burberry and Pretty Green adding more notches to their Rock ‘n’ Roll credentials through their image alone.

Most importantly the band have spent the past year performing ecstatic live shows up and down the country, embracing the chaos of the road and the lifestyle in true fashion. Supporting the likes of Yak and Dexters, as well as playing their own headline slots, we managed to catch up with Vini and Ranald to talk about how life is treating them right now.

Hey guys, how are you and what have you been up to this week?

Vincent: We’ve just come off a tour with our good friends YAK who are one of the most exciting live bands we’ve ever seen. Now we’re starting work on our debut EP which we’re doing in Liverpool.

What your favourite show been so far?

Ranald: I think its got to be when we played in Make Music Pasadena it’s a festival in the town and we managed to blag a decent stage. It’s my favourite for a few reasons, it was outdoors and sunny, Vinnie and Josh had stayed at the venue we’d played at the night before in LA and were late. They turned up having no sleep in the same outfits as the night before. We didn’t know what to expect but there was 3000 people there and palm trees. Somehow it was one of the best playing wise too. Vincent got in the crowd too.

Why should people come and see you play live?

Vincent: Because we’re the best thing since JLS.

On the tour you’ve been accompanying Yak and Dexters, how’ve you found those guys?

Vincent: When you tour with great bands that are more experienced you always learn a lot. You realise you’ve been doing it all wrong and that these guys have the answer kind of thing.

Who would you most like to tour with?

Vincent: We’ve been lucky enough to play with bands that we really admire but one of the bands I’d personally like to play with are the Growlers. I’m a big fan and they’re great live.

You’re favourite way to pass time on the road is…

Vincent: We throw bottle caps in to a bin and take pictures of each other when we’re asleep.

What are your plans once the tour is over?

Vincent: The tour is never over we’re either recording or touring!

Your latest single is of course the brilliant ‘Love You Cause You’re There’, what can you tell us about the track?

Vincent: It was written in my shed after Myself (vin) and Ranald had a huge argument and he started to play a bass line to ignore my shouting so I started singing the words over the top and that’s was it.

Do you have any album plans?

Ranald: I think we’d like to do the album for November next year were just polishing off our EP now.

Which other bands have caught your eye this year?

Vincent: We just got off tour with YAK, they’re probably my favourite band… as performers it’s second to none. Great bunch of guys too!

What can we expect from Hidden Charms in 2016?

Ranald: More tunes, lots more dates!

Is there anything else you’d like to add?

Sausages

Thanks Hidden Charms!
