INTRODUCING: Findlay

Best known for her fierce distinctive voice that could shatter wine glasses and stun anyone at first listen, Findlay are undoubtedly one of the most exciting new bands to come from the North. Fronted by Stockport’s most flamboyant female, Natalie Findlay, you may have already seen the band live as they have a very impressive history of supporting artists such as Jake Bugg and The Courteeners. Findlay’s vocals are some of the strongest coming from the new wave of increasingly popular female-lead bands. From the likes of Wolf Alice to country duo First Aid Kit, there is an emerging trend of feisty vocalists. And most welcome it is too! Gigslutz have picked three of Findlay’s most massive tracks to give you an introduction to the best thing you’ll hear this week:

‘Off and On’

Rasping screams, punky soulful tones; Findlay’s vocals are suited to her tailor-made, cleverly orchestrated tunes. ‘Off and On’ has a melody that meanders before lifting to its crashy chorus just at the right moment to enhance each musician’s contribution.

‘Greasy Love’

Released back in November 2013, ‘Greasy Love’ was the lead track from the EP of the same name. Laden with dark, twisted lyrics, the song is even grungier than its name first suggests.

‘Electric Bones’

After the success of her previous singles – including ‘Off & On’ and ‘Greasy Love’ – both of which had Playlist slots on BBC 6 Music, it isn’t unreasonable to say that this new tune is about to get the same response. No longer with her old record label, ‘Electric Bones’ was spontaneously revealed to the world last week through SoundCloud, independently. It is made for chart domination, without conforming to the dull and predictable pop tunes that we are fully aware are not an accurate representation of the country’s music taste. This song may not be for everyone, but those who may be put off need to get a grip and take a listen to Findlay…
