Introducing Interview: Bad Wave

Following the success of their releases last year, with their single ‘3am’ topping the Hype Machine chart and being featured as ‘band of the week’ in The Guardian, LA duo Bad Wave are now back with brand new track.

With the release of ‘Time To Get Lost’ set for next month, we caught up with the duo to find out more…

Hi there! Can you tell us who Bad Wave are?
Hi! We are Tucker and Patrick. When we play live our drummer Ben comes along.

When and why did you decide to start making music together?
We were kind of in the same musical circles back when we both lived in Miami… After we got to LA, we were playing in this band Nicky Blitz, and we were roommates, so it was just a matter of time.

How would you describe your sound?
Like that feeling when you wake up from a dream and you’re like, “that was weird,” then you go back to sleep and you’re in the same dream again. More specifically, we’re the synth pop band that goes crazy.

The tracks you released in 2016 did really well, were you surprised?
Very! I mean we enjoyed making them, but it’s really an honour to have people listen to and write about the things you make. We are really proud of the upcoming stuff we’ve made, so hopefully that goes well too.

What is ‘Time To Get Lost’ all about?
We wrote a nice little thing about that on our website, badwave.cool (sick plug!). In short, it reflects frustrations we’ve felt throughout this election cycle. You gotta let it out somewhere!

What are your plans for the rest of the year?
Good question! We’ve got a bunch of new music we’re really excited about, which we will keep releasing throughout the year. We’ve been playing live more too and we wanna keep doing that… We just went out for a quickie road trip opening for our buddies Great Good Fine OK, which was super fun and gave us enough of a taste to want to go right back out again. A few creative surprises too!

Will you be heading over to Europe anytime soon?
We’d love to! We’ve got some U.K. connections, so hopefully we can make it a reality. We’ll keep you posted.

Huge thanks to Bad Wave for answering our questions!

‘Time To Get Lost’, the new single from Bad Wave, is out 17 February via 10k Islands.
