Introducing Interview: BRONCHO

With two successful albums under their sleeves, having featured on the soundtrack to the popular HBO series Girls, and with plenty of airplay over here on 6Music, things are looking pretty great for Oklahoma band BRONCHO right now. Currently on a UK tour alongside The Districts and Growlers, we decided to catch up with Ryan Lindsey from the band to talk beds, aerobics and R rated movies…

Hi, how are you and what have you been up to this week?
We’ve just been criss-crossing the British country side – sampling plenty of tasty bits. I’m doing pretty well actually. I’ve gotten a reasonable amount of sleep I think – there are good beds here. I haven’t had a bad bed in the UK.

It’s safe to say Broncho had a pretty successful 2014, how’s 2015 shaping up so far?
Pretty safe to say, safe as well. 2015 has been pretty safe too thus far. Lots of traveling, lots of moving things around.  Been to a lot of new places over the last year.

You’ve just released the video for ‘NC-17’, what do the track and video represent?
Nc-17 makes me think of something that was off limits. It being a movie rating in the USA – the next step after Rated R. It was enticing for kids and it didn’t really matter what the film was about or who was in it. The rating sold the show. Now that I’m an adult, there’s not really anything like that anymore- I can watch any movie I want to now. Now I like to watch movies that I’m not supposed to watch, it gives me somewhat the same feeling.

You also released your album Just Enough Hip To Be  Woman last year, what can you tell us about the album?
It’s a record the whole family can enjoy, one for every member of the family. Family double dare, family feud, family fortune in the UK, I suppose. It’s a real family activity. One to take on holiday. Or maybe you leave this one at home for vacations. Depends on the time of year… It could make sense during all four seasons.

You’re also on a European and U.K tour right now alongside The Districts and The Growlers, how’s that going?
Yes, this tour over here has been a lot of fun. The Districts and The Growlers have been introducing us to their people, and it’s been a great time so far.  We fly to Canada straight from here, so we have a little bit more of international touring before we go home.

How would you summarise yourselves to those that have never seen you live before?
Sweating to the oldies. I want people to think of our show as an aerobics class: burn off some excess calories. Raise your heart rate, or lower your heart rate if you’d rather do that

What other new artists are you currently enjoying listening to?
I haven’t been listening to much music. Anything I should be listening to? We welcome all recommendations.

Well, here at Gigslutz we’re currently really enjoying Chastity Belt, Lights Out Lester and The Parrots, to name a few. Check them out!

Who do you think most likely influence Broncho as artists?
We’re influenced by many different things: music, art, an occasional party. Friends influence us. We soak up everything we can touch. We’re very handsy.

Is there anything else we can expect from Broncho throughout the rest of 2015?
We will be touring a lot, so you should expect to get sick of us. But hopefully you’ll still have us back in 2016… Maybe we’ll take a break at some point and you’ll start to miss me, then we will come visit again.

Looking forward to it! Thanks so much for answering our questions, Ryan.
