Introducing Interview: Cadence Kid

Following the success of his last single ‘Hold On Me’, Jason Turbin – aka Cadence Kid – is now set to release a brand new track. Having been heavily involved in music from a young age – performing in musicals such as Les Miserables, and forming prog-metal band Dream Theater – he has received praise from many online publications, such as IDOL Magazine.

Created alongside his Grammy award winning brother, producer Cassidy Turbin (Beck, Bat For Lashes, Thurston Moore), new single ‘The Darkness’ is a haunting fusion of sounds, resulting in a truly unique, cinematic creation. Amalgamating intense, synth-heavy melodies alongside uptempo electro beats, ‘The Darkness’ reveals Cadence Kid’s incredible knack for combining a range of eclectic influences, and creating something completely original.

We caught up with Cadence Kid to find out a little bit more…

Hi, welcome to Gigslutz! Could you tell us a bit more about Cadence Kid please?
Just a one man band….. I play everything I can get my hands on. If I need some acoustic drumming I’ll call on Cassidy Turbin (my producer) for the task.

What’s the story behind your latest single ‘The Darkness’?
I’ve always been a fan of songs being left up to interpretation but I will say this: there’s a girl who’s different from everyone else and she’s wandering in the night.

Your last single ‘Hold On Me’ had a summer feel to it and this one is more autumnal – was this intentional?
Completely! I’m really into writing songs that fit with a particular season.

Any plans to release an album in the near future?
Maybe? Right now I like the idea of just releasing singles. This allows me to make each song different then the last and start fresh each time.

What’s the next step for Cadence Kid?
More tunes and music videos as well as a website on the way… I’ve also been approached by labels and still deciding on if that’s a route I should take.

Who are your top three artists of all time?
Bach, The Beatles and John Williams (if I had to choose just 3).

And can you describe your sound in three words for us?
“Forever and ever-changing”. (I have Country, Funk, Folk and Jazz tunes I’d like to eventually release!)
