Introducing Interview: Captain Casanova

With their new single out now, Danish garage-rockers Captain Casanova formed in 2012 and have since been making quite a name for themselves with their intense live shows.

Influenced by ’90s alt-rock bands such as Dinosaur Jr and Pavement, Captain Casanova’s riotous sound is certainly worth a listen. We caught up with the band to find out more…

Hi, welcome to Gigslutz! How are you today?
Truly wonderful! That 1 day of yearly sunshine has hit Denmark, so you couldn’t have picked a better day to ask us!

Tell us a bit more about Captain Casanova.
It’s a garage-rock/alternative three-piece from Aarhus, Denmark. Our live shows are receiving a lot of talk around here, Germany and Netherlands and our sound is both aggressive and inviting.
We are decent dressers but terrible coordinators and we have things like “ginger and lime for tea/ no fastfood, pretty please” written in our rider. You can’t always be too cool for school you know.

What’s the story behind your latest single ‘Futures’?
It’s a goodbye to the son of my ex-girlfriend. I was very close with him and the relationship ended a bit chaotic so I never felt like I got the chance to have a proper goodbye. I wanted him to know that I really care a lot.

What’s the music scene like at the moment in Denmark?
It’s been rather dull for a long time. Too much music with control and focus on it “being right”. Luckily the punk, punk-rock and rock scene, especially here in Aarhus, is gaining a lot of attention also internationally. – the band Yung got signed to Fat Possum records not so long ago. Denmark will always be too small a country to have these genres thrive on a mainstream level, however. That’s why we go abroad.

What’s the next step for Captain Casanova?
We are looking for collaborators in the US at the moment, and this fall we open up for gigs in the UK. We’ll then continue to tour other parts of Europe also.

Who are your top 3 favourite grunge artists?
The Breeders, Nirvana & Mudhoney.

Describe your sound in 3 words.
Fearless, Intense and Inviting.

Huge thanks to Captain Casanova for answering our questions!

‘Futures’ the new single from Captain Casanova, is out now via Tapetown Records.
