Jack Rowberry ‘Ladybird EP’ Review

Formerly a member of Scottish band, Pose Victorious, Jack Rowberry has just released a new EP, ‘Ladybird’. Rowberry has played a variety of intimate, acoustic gigs, as well as supporting punk band – The Buzzcocks – at sold out venues. Influenced by childhood heroes, such as Steve Craddock and James Walsh, Jack is seeing an increase in fans and media coverage helping propel him into the music industry.

‘Ladybird’  consists of four tracks, two studio recordings and two live tracks. The songs are miniature tales about day to day happenings, with the lead track ‘House of Cards’ having grungy hints of the likes of Nirvana. The song builds up gradually to incorporate rhythmic and electric guitars, resulting in a full sound, telling a tale that seems to be about getting away.

‘Stay Brave,’ has more of an acoustic country feel, almost like an early Kings of Leon track. The vocals are softer, with Jack Rowberry singing, ‘we won’t forget the good times or let them fade away,’ giving a romantic edge to the second song on ‘Ladybird’.

The highlights of the album, however, are the live tracks, giving a sense of how Jack interacts with the crowd, using his storytelling abilities with just a guitar and a microphone.
