Jamie Woon confirms second album, inspired by D’Angelo, is “getting there”

The Lord is beginning his return to music : Jamie Woon is gearing up for the release of his second album.

Revealed in his first interview in three years, Woon confirmed that the follow-up LP to 2011’s Mirrorwriting, is “getting there”.  The up-coming record is being produced by Lexx, who has “worked with Gwilym Gold and Wild Beasts”, and is inspired by “D’Angelo’s ‘Voodoo’.

On the subject of D’Angelo, Woon told Beats 1 that he is “really inspired by ‘Voodoo’, and having the band in the room.  It’s a dying art trying to record live players because it costs money to do it properly.  My starting point was that I wanted to hear a funky rhythm section”.

On the subject of the sound of Woon’s sophomore album, he said: “It’s still the same type of songs it’s just a real drummer and bass player, not electronic.”

We personally, cannot wait for the next instalment of the Jamie Woon legacy to unravel.  While we twiddle our thumbs and wait in anticipation, sink your teeth into ‘Sharpness’, the latest track from Woon which premiered on Annie Mac’s Radio 1 show last month.
