Joe Clegg shares hypnotic debut EP ‘Phoenix’ via Be Softly

Stepping out of his Musical Director role and into the performance spotlight; Joe Clegg has shared his debut EP Phoenix, via independent Bristol label Be Softly.

Clegg has collaborated with many of the UK’s leading pop artists including Clean Bandit, Sigrid, and Mumford & Sons, as well as working with Ellie Goulding as her Musical Director and touring drummer for the past decade. Now, he’s turned his hand to electronic soundscapes, and Phoenix is a collection of atmospheric, superbly produced tracks.

To create his original sounds, Clegg used a diverse range of instruments and techniques in the recording studio. Analogue machines, tape delay, spring reverb and saturation, old synths and Joe’s collection of vintage drums permeate the five tracks on the EP. The EP was mixed by Matt Wiggins (James Bay, U2, The Stone Roses, Lorde) and mastered by Alex Gordon (CHVRCHES, The Kooks, Sigrid) at Abbey Road Studios.

Ranging from warped ambiance, to jagged synths and driving drum beats; Phoenix feels like an aural transformation from an artist who is rising from the ashes of past roles, and breathing life into a personal, passionate new project.
