John Squire Speaks! The next Stone Roses album due in 5 years?

It looks like new Stone Roses material is in the pipeline with John Squire confirming new songs have been written, but not recorded. At last night’s premier of Made of Stone when asked about new material Squire confirmed to BBC Radio 6 that:

 “We’re working on it. It’ll be ready in about five years. We’ve got a few new songs. I can’t really tell you much about it. We won’t be playing the songs live until we’ve recorded them. We’re working on it this year.”

John cryptically went on to state;

“We’re not going to record a whole album. We’ll do it like we did the first record — go in there when we’re ready to do it.”

So that would disappointingly suggest no new material for Finsbury Park. However cconsidering Squire famously stated “I have no desire whatsoever to desecrate the grave of seminal Manchester pop group The Stone Roses” back in 2009 it is difficult to know what to expect.
