La Roux to DJ at Picturehouse Strike Fundraiser

On Friday 16th March La Roux will headline a fundraiser for the Picturehouse Strikers at DIY Space for London. La Roux will be joined by British Industrial music leaders Test Department, Mickey O’Brien, Vogue Fabrics’ Burning Down the House, electro punk influenced Lawn Flamingo and Ukrainian duo Sparkling Duet.

The fundraiser comes as part of strikes by workers represented by BECTU, the cinema workers’ union, at the Ritzy, Hackney Picturehouse, Crouch End Picturehouse  East Dulwich Picturehouse,  Picturehouse Central and Brighton Duke of York. The workers are striking against Picturehouse and Cineworld’s refusal to negotiate on demands for the London living wage, company sick pay for all, maternity, paternity and adoption pay, and the reinstatement of four sacked union reps at the Ritzy.

Of the campaign, La Roux said: “I fully support the workers’ campaign to be paid the Living Wage. As someone local to the Ritzy Cinema I feel it’s our responsibility as a community to stand with them and support their efforts.”

All funds raised from the event will go directly to the Picturehouse Strike Fund set up by trade union BECTU. Further information on the strike is below.
