‘Small Talk’ is usually associated with the mundane chatter peddled by acquaintances is coffee shops and bars across the land, which leads it to be a curious title for a such a confident slice of indie electro pop from Anglo-French newcomer Marrius. Mixing modern electronics with a bluesey classic songwriting edge, Marrius chases his influences down and melds them together with a professionalism rarely seen in by an artist whose career is in its infancy. Think early Justin Timberlake, jamming with Keith Richards all pumped through a modular synth…quite the combination.
‘Small Talk’ is the lead single and outstanding highlight of Marrius’ debut EP out now on Station 5 records. The self titled EP was recorded in Brixton with producer Livingstone Brown and in part with Andy Hall in East London, then mixed in Malaga, Spain and London – making the music, much like the man, multicultural. He has recently headlined London’s Servant Jazz Quarters and supported wonky indie pop legends Alt-J at the Scala in London.
