LISTEN: South London rapper YJ shares new track ‘Ms Independent’

After a mini hiatus, South London based rapper YJ returns to the scene with the audio for his brand new track ‘Ms Independent’.

Produced by Kelly Portis, the hypnotic instrumental provides YJ with a base for him to really show off his slick storytelling lyricism and flow, whilst also showcasing his vocal ability, as we see him performing the hooks on the track.

‘Ms Independent’ ends with a snippet from popular comedy, drama ‘The Best Man Holiday’. Independent, career obsessed Jordan confesses to not needing a man and is reminded by her spouse Brian that ‘everybody needs somebody..’ even the woman who may seem to have it all.

YJ’s natural ability to draw from previous experiences from his own life has allowed him to become an artist who is very autobiographical within his music. Creating music that not only evokes emotion but also brings forth a refreshing spin on the current climate of UK Hip Hop is a trait that makes him a very interesting artists to watch for the future.

YJ has been fortunate enough to open for Hip Hop legends Method Man and Redman during their London show back in July 2014 and his musical efforts have also seen him reach the top 3 of ‘The MOBO UnSung’ competition. With his next project set to be released shortly, prepare to hear a lot more from this talented South Londoner.
