LISTEN: Stalagmites – ‘Binary’

Manchester newcomers Stalagmites’ debut single ‘Binary’ is a captivating coalescence of dark alt-pop and glimmering guitars. Frontman Bradley Lynch explains that ‘Binary’ follows a story of “coming from a dark place and finding a way out, hoping it might be a simple switch but knowing it’s much more than that”.

The trio’s combination of fuzzy guitars, minimalist alt-pop, and a heavy beat results in an energetic coming-of-age story. Bradley’s treacly vocals give the track a buttery, almost glossy finish, which, while paired with the headily atmospheric instrumental, makes the track truly infectious. After spins from Steve Lamacq (6Music) and John Kennedy (Radio X), it’s sure to catch on.

The Stone Roses and Echo And The Bunnymen are clear influences in the band’s broody alt-indie, jangly riffs and misty soundscapes; and, if ‘Binary’ is anything to go on, Stalagmites have a lot more to achieve.
