LIVE: Boomtown Fair Chapter One: The Gathering 2022

Boomtown Fair Chapter One: The Gathering reopened its city gates after three years to 66,000 people into Matterley Bowl in the South Downs National Park, for a music and theatrical festival that showcased over 500 artists from across the world.

With temperatures reaching upwards of 33C, extra precautions were put in place over the weekend to ensure citizens were able to stay hydrated and safe. After two cancelled events due to Coronavirus, Boomtown was able to throw a celebration for everybody with the likes of Kool and the Gang, Four Tet, Koffee, Nova Twins and more. There were nine unique districts across the festival site, all with fully immersive theatre and games for festival goers to get involved with.
The heat was intense and many made use of every inch of shade that they could find. Those that did brave the sun were treated to performances from the likes of Gentlemans Dub Club. Luckily, many people walked around with water guns to cool people down.
The details in the fictitious cities craft and create a city of wonder, such as Old Town, filled with hidden shops and bars and alleys- actors creating scenes all around and involving the passing people. One of these was an STI clinic, where people could go and have fake crabs removed!
Origin stage was the home of drum and bass for the weekend and the incredible crowds that gathered there were a spectacle to be seen! The stage had a valley surrounding it, so as far as the eye could see people stretched out to watch performers such as Shy FX. The stage itself had jungle feels to it, with trees and waterfalls in the background.
The resounding best part of Boomtown was the spirit of the people there, everyone so happy to be back after such a long time. Every inch of the festival echoed a similar message: love yourself and your neighbour- despite which town they reside!
