LIVE: Raglans @ Liverpool Sound City 24.05.15

After a fiasco involving 3 mini croissants, a rotary toaster and a hotel breakfast room full of annoyed staff; it was time to head back to the Mersey for more live music. Definitely displaying the best line up of the weekend, one of Sunday’s new musical highlights was Dublin quartet, Raglans.

Just off the back of an extensive UK tour, as well as support slots with fellow Irish lads, The Strypes, Raglans took to the Cargo Stage in front of a reserved, nonetheless excited audience. Their energy abundant set was fuelled by the festival friendly songs mostly taken from their self-titled debut album which was released early last year. These included ‘The Man From Glasgow’ and ‘Natives’ which saw the audience lose their slightly awkward stance and fall to the charm of Raglans’ folky pop pieces.

The band are one who respond well to audience reaction and partnered with their progressive set, manage to turn the heads of those less interested into fans after just 30 minutes. Some new songs were features, which provided a refreshing edge and gave us all a hint of what is to come from these lads who have recently been in the studio recording demos of new songs. Hopefully it won’t be too long until we all get to hear what Raglans have to say next.

Although the tent was one of the smallest on site, it soon began to feel very large as people filled gaps and filed in at the back, after assumedly hearing Raglans as they wandered past. Ending the set was the impressive ‘Digging Holes’ which saw all four and members down guitars to pick up cowbells and drumsticks.  The racket to follow ensured they left the stage on a high and most importantly the crowd Googleing their name.

Check out the new Raglans fan craze, @poorlydrawnrag to see some poorly drawn Rag-lads.
