LIVE: Underworld – Albert Hall, Manchester 13.03.15

“SHOUTING, LAGER LAGER LAGER!”

Underworld; the duo who shot to fame with their trance classic Born Slippy, which featured on Danny Boyle’s infamous film ‘Trainspotting’. The hard hitting trance artists put on a performance which matches their reputation within the trance world. Underworld can be seen as dance music for the seasoned veteran.

The crowd applaud and praise the change in tempo, as the duo switch between the mellow chill-out of ‘Tongue’ by Pink Floyd  to the pumping beat of ‘Cowgirl’ by Rez. Front man Karl Hyde provides an eccentric stream of conscious lyrics whilst his partner Rick Smith is in control of the turntable and mixing desk and new member to the band, Darren Price, takes charge of the keyboard at the back of the stage.

The show is simple – no assault on the eyes or tidal waves of visuals. The simplicity comes with the backdrop, a plain black wall where the song titles are projected onto, coupled with some white spotlights to pierce the darkness in the room. The only time this is altered is during the encore – obviously Born Slippy. The whiteness changes to technicolour and the levels of euphoria rise. The crowd are in awe of the band whilst the band themselves are clearly feeding off the outpouring of positivity. A hard hitting, pacey, bass driven and highly enjoyable night for all.
