On Friday, 26 January, Queen Zee brought Sassden 002 to Manchester. Promising “all the drag, dance and noise you can stomach,” events which unfurled at Jimmy’s certainly didn’t disappoint.
With support from Jo Mary, and Incisions, the latter in equal parts snarling and charming, getting the crowd sufficiently hyped up for Queen Zee.
Having earlier this month announced they’d dropped the ‘sasstones’ from their name (initially Queen Zee and the Sasstones) Queen Zee took to Jimmy’s with an apparent new lease of life, as though 2018 marks the start of an exciting new phase for the band. We’ve no doubt it’ll be their year, to be honest. Between the band’s ability to deal with equipment mishaps with effortless charm, Zee seemingly made to be a frontperson, and their politically charged, powerful DIY punk, they’ve got it all.

Playing through the likes of ‘Idle Crown,’ ‘Porno,’ and ‘Sissy Fits,’ Queen Zee initiated mosh pits, elicited all manner of emotions, and prove that their place on countless ones to watch lists this year is more than deserved.
Ending the night with a DJ set from Thirsty Girls – a collective who set out to promote all girl/non-binary musicians – Sassden 002 was something special.
