LIVE: The Gramotones @ Liverpool Sound City 25.05.15

Hotly tipped by Gigslutz as a must-see band, the Manchester based Gramotones brought the North Stage to a close on Sunday night with my favourite set of the festival.

Demonstrating a sound that’s beyond any run of the mill indie bands who dominate the airwaves currently, The Gramotones are a well crafted outfit who balance gorgeous 3 part harmonies with racing instrumentals and clever lyrics. Alongside fellow Mancunians Blossoms they offered Sound City a refreshing showcase of the Manchester scene.

Highlights of their set included the crowd-pleasing ‘A Soldier’s Kiss’ which got everybody moving, and, whilst showcasing newer material, the captivating ‘No Matter How Hard I Try’ saw Fletcher take to the keys whilst Cooper switched to bass and Comac to guitar. The variety in their set shows a huge mix of influences upon the band’s music but the creativity and originality is what draws you to The Gramotones. Ending on ‘Corporate Whipping Boy’ (the next single, released June 26th) the song was introduced by the presenter from the video Michael Hawkins, a brilliant touch to end a brilliant set.
