Long Division announces Fizzy Blood, The Membranes and The Surfing Magazines

Wakefield festival of arts, culture and music – better known as Long Division – has revealed that Fizzy Blood and The Membranes will be performing at the festival.  A variety of arts and literature events will also take place, welcoming the likes of Billy Bragg and Laura Snapes to the festival as panellists.

Taking place in a variety of venues across Wakefield from June 1-3, Long Division is a festival dedicated to making 90% of its programme free of fees. This is to make art, literature and culture accessible to all in West Yorkshire.

Musical acts who will be performing at the celebration also include The Surfing Magazines – a collective which features members of Slow Cub and The Wave Pictures – Evil Blizzard, Hull’s LIFE, and ZoZo.

Away from the glitz and the glamour of the music, Long Divison also champions the arts and culture with a programme entitled ‘A Manifesto For A New Wakefield’. Under this umbrella, expect to see offerings from ‘Visible Words From Invisible People’ – a project where Wakefield’s homeless community worked together with artist Richard Wheater to develop language through light, and allow others to hear their stories through neon signage. Â

As well as this fantastic helping hand, Long Division will feature ‘Write Place, Write Time‘ an in-depth talk about how the creative process of writing takes place. This panel will see special guests Laura Snapes and Billy Bragg – who is also set to musically perform at the event – expressing their opinions and giving insight into how writing really works.

Tickets for Wakefield’s Long Division 2018 are available now. There is also still time to apply to play at Long Division see via their official website.

Long Division takes place in a variety of venues across Wakefield, from June 1-3.
