LISTEN: Malory drops debut album ‘Cornucopia’

After a string of widely acclaimed alt pop singles in 2017 and 2018, hotly tipped singer/songwriter and all round creative Malory has announced the release of her debut album ‘Cornucopia’. Out via Extreme Music on 1st March, she celebrated the release with a headlining launch show at London’s Borderline on 28th Feb.

Having co-produced the album with Danny George and Nick Kingsley, it has been 2 years in the making. The 8 track offering is full of care free expression, charm and honesty – providing a snap shot in time of an artist fully at ease with her creative process. Malory explains:

“Cornucopia is a musical collage of the last five years of my life. It’s a collection of experiences, love’s, losses, my own search for identity and my fantasies too.”

“I spent so many years holding back songs because I thought they were too weird or not ‘pop’ enough, but I’ve finally reached this wonderful place in myself where I just don’t care anymore. If music is all about self expression, then I have to let go, express, release songs into the universe and move on to the next phase.”

Songs such as current single ‘Blue Umbrella’ showcase her striking sonic blueprint of piano-led arrangements with stacked vocal stabs, off-kilter percussive hits, rumbling electronic bass sounds and soaring choruses – a sound which

has been honed by studio sessions across London, LA and Toronto over the last 2 years. Wanting to express the many sides to her character, there’s themes such as anger and cynicism in ‘Rugrat’ and ‘My Bed’ whilst her more vulnerability side can be heard in ‘Trickle’ and ‘Cornucopia’. There’s even a full on ode to love in ‘Last To Die’.

Malory’s leftfield take on pop has gained her fans throughout the industry, with support from the likes of BBC Introducing, BBC Radio 2, XFM, Metro (Artist Of The Day), The Line Of Best Fit, Wonderland, The 405 and many more. On the road she’s supported George Ezra on tour and performed at BBC Introducing Hyde Park and The Great Escape 2018.

Her music has also picked up various sync placements such as for Netflix’s ‘Battle’ trailer, a Cannes Lions Grand prix winning advert ‘Project Literacy’, ABC’s Dancing With The Stars, MTV’s ‘The Challenge’ and her debut single “Rapture” is set to appear in Ben Kingsley’s next movie, ‘Nomis’.
