Former sci-fi provocateur and Sigue Sigue Sputnik riff-quiff Neal X’s new ensemble, The Montecristos, have been added as the support act for selective dates on Marc Almond’s current ‘Velvet Trail tour’. The group recently played a sold-out show at London’s historic Wilton Hall (with an Almond cameo on a rollicking cover of Vince Taylor and the Playboys’ rock-roller ‘Brand New Cadillac’) and released their debut album Born to Rock and Roll on 30 March.
X is also continuing to add his wah-wah sounds to the electro-burlesque cabaret of the synth-sex-dwarf Almond. “I’ve been working with Marc for over 20 years now (and) the Velvet Trail is his best and most exciting album in that time and this tour should be amazing. I’m really thrilled Marc has invited The Montecristos to warm up his audience for him.”
Catch the Montecristos at Brighton Dome on 21 April, Manchester Bridgewater Hall on 25 April, Basingstoke Anvil on 30 April and London Shepherd’s Bush Empire on 1 May. To paraphrase author Alexandre Dumas, ‘All human wisdom is contained in these words – go and see’.
X is also resurrecting his seminal past by re-releasing a souped-up version of former band Sputnik’s legendary single 1986 top ten hit ‘Love Missile F1-11’ with newie ‘Badfinger Twang’ on the B-side as a limited edition (500) red 7″ single for this year’s Record Store Day on 18 April 2015.
