New Track: The Barmines – ‘These Days and Nights’

The Barmines are an indie rock ‘n’ roll four-piece from Leeds, consisting of Rob Burton, Liam Lockey, Leam Hayes and James May. The lads have already experienced the life of a live band, having played some of Leeds’ finest venues such as The Cockpit and The Wardrobe, in addition to Sheffield’s Academy, as well as playing festivals including Bingley and Strawberry Fields. The band have already had an EP released but have since been back in the studio and been working on new material – the latest release being the new single, ‘These Days and Nights’.

The track itself begins with the thunderous pounding of the drums, paving the way for a relentlessly paced track, followed by the creeping intro of the guitar before bursting into full-scale, weighty rock ‘n’ roll. The verses maintain harsh, gritty vocals from frontman ‘Burton’, accompanied by the chugging of muted guitar chords, giving this song a good blend of its indie intentions, as well as more fundamental rock aspects with an ounce of punk creeping into the mix as well.  The chorus of ‘These Days and Nights’ is the key aspect of the song, and is something the modern world of music has been missing – something that actually feels authentic, something that feels as though it means something personal. There really does appear to be a great sense of feelings flowing throughout the track, which undoubtedly improves its ability to be listened to over and over again.

The track holds a great blend of elements that make a good song, with immense emotion and feeling rushing throughout each note, similar to the likes of Catfish and The Bottlemen, if I may be so bold. All in all, the music accompanies the lyrics greatly, allowing it to be as fast-paced and aggressive as it wishes to be. ‘These Days and Nights’ refuses to take the foot off the gas at any point throughout the song, and it must be said it can be easily imagined being played live.

The Barmines are currently in the midst of a UK tour, catch them live:
