New Track: Broncho – ‘NC-17’

Well, whaddaya know, the first glimpse of sunshine in months and Oklahoma indie upstarts, Broncho, arrive right on cue to soundtrack that shirts-off, giddy-headed race down to the park to blister your lily-white paunch. Coming to attention in the US when their track ‘It’s On’ was used in Lena Dunham’s hit HBO show Girls, their debut Can’t Get Past The Lips (2011) was a rush of scrappy garage rock exuberance, whilst follow-up Just Enough Hip To Be Woman (2014) flirted more with bubblegum melodies and jangly hooks – just like discovering a dusty cassette tape compilation of shoegazey, slacker pop hits from the early ’90s.

Led by the languid delivery of front-man Ryan Lindsey, stand out track ‘NC-17’ now comes with a new video that captures that sun-baked, hazy bliss and introduces the band to UK audiences ahead of European dates in April and May with The Districts and The Growlers. It’s all reverb-and-crunch, stoner guitar loveliness, drifting along in an Evan Dando daydream, until the snooze is awoken by a jolt of fret shredding, hard-twiddling, Van Halen scrawl. It’s a welcome little meltdown that opens the eyeballs and spikes the three-minute scuzz-pop nugget with sugary shot E-numbers and caffeine. Have a gander here:
