NEW TRACK: We Are The City – ‘King David’

The imagery of a city being a sort of beacon from a distance. A mark to reach.” is where this Canadian group We Are The City‘s name is said to have been born. Similarly, their music reflects a certain sense of that iconography. Fittingly beautiful, tentative and with pent up emotion, the group’s latest single ‘King David’ floats around vibes not dissimilar to The Flaming Lips, whilst retaining a strong melody.

Lyrically, the track holds up strongly, with poetically contradictory lines – “You’re always thinking of yourself. I’m always thinking of myself” –  being sung delicately with the frontman’s falsetto. This, combined with the off tempo and unorthodox rhythm, creates a great indie pop track with licks and touches of some of the great alternative rock bands, even subtly touching upon psychedelia.

‘King David’  invokes feelings of vulnerability and being emotionally exposed, building up to a climax of harmonies leading to an impressive pent up release of frustration.

We Are The City release their debut album, Violent, via Sinnbus, on 27th April 2015.
