New Track: Haley Bonar – ‘Kismet Kill’

Age is something we can all – presumably – relate to. Likewise is the feeling of growing up too fast, whilst never growing up at all. And while I’m yet to find myself dreaming of teenage memories, Haley Bonar’s latest single ‘Kismet Kill’ is definitely something, in perhaps a less extreme degree, that I can associate with.

Along with the video telling tales of a woman chasing high school memories as her life slips away, Bonar perfectly captures the often dreamlike confusion of growing up. Whether intentional or not, her vocals give the track a sort of Alice-In-Wonderland feel; something as real as aging becoming an almost hallucinogenic blur of memories and reality.

Theme aside, there’s something really addictive about ‘Kismet Kill’. While similarities can be drawn to Wolf Alice (dreamy vocals over a heavier band), Haley Bonar is certainly doing her own thing. And with ‘Kismet Kill’ being both a little bit sweet, and unafraid to “get a little weird”, it’s an anthem for everyone.

Impossible Dream, the upcoming album from Haley Bonar is out 5 August.
